There are many wood burning books online. That’s the thing with the internet; it gives you a plethora of options with a single click of a mouse. But for people who are looking forward to start burning with fire right away, books aren’t always the best place to look for cool wood burning patterns. To help you start right away, here are some of the patterns that might interest you.
One of the most interesting design approach to try is adding color to your work. Let’s take Burning with Sharon’s work as an example. It is a seascape project to which you can add color to the design.
Adding Color to Your Seascape Design
In this video I share my techniques for adding color to your seascape pyrography. I go over where to burn and how to burn so that the foam and spray have a realistic look. This is important because if not done properly you could lose all the detail you have worked so hard to burn in.This pattern is from my Ships Masterclass which contains a number of original Sailing Ship designs to work from. You can find it on my store.
If you have prism color pencil and Windsor Newton watercolors, you should try this design approach. Of course, the art will take time to execute if you are new to pyrography. It should come out, though, if you put in the necessary work.
Another pyrography design pattern that’s worth trying is wood burning letters and numbers. We think this is a simple and straightforward option. So, it should be easy to design the best stuff. Here is a brief from The Pyrography Tool on burning letters and numbers.
Burning Letters and Numbers: A Cool Pyrography Pattern
There will come a point where you will want to present a gift to someone and would like to put their name on it – enter the alphabet. While we take everyday writing for granted, doing lettering as art presents its own challenges.
While people may not know what your pet cat looks like – they can see a rendition of a cat. Looks great. This does not apply to lettering. If one character is slightly out of alignment or disproportionate in relation to the other characters, it stands out like a sore thumb.
There are two ways to burn letters and numbers on wood. On the one hand, you can do this using a normal pyrography pen. On the other hand, you can use a pyrography alphabet stamp set. Each nib in the set has a letter of the alphabet engraved in different styles.
These aren’t the only patterns that you can try. Guide Patterns has over a dozen design ideas that you can try right now. From the list, you can choose the designs you think look great to your eyes, and then try to burn them on wood.
